3 ways to manage your space

We all have well been through that moment a number of times, when we look around, sigh and exclaim, “We don’t i have enough space!!” But not anymore; small, little tips can help you manage everything in your house and make it a livelier place to live. It is a well known fact that the more organised and clean the place is where you live, the better atmosphere you create for yourself and your family.

Positivity cannot be brought inside a house cramped with big and small things fit together to survive, and not be cherished and admired. And you can put a stop to it only if space management is put into action. You may have been a part of several conversations pertaining to doing this or that about space management, but there are mainly and broadly three categories which are simple and very essential. They are very easy to follow, and once you get into the groove, each member of the family will get accustomed to it. They are:

You will notice that sometimes, it is not just about the things in the house that take up the place, it is also the way they are kept that blocks the energies and instantly fill up the room. Furniture, especially, should be rearranged in such a manner that it makes way for you to walk around without any hassles. Use the corner space for rugs and chairs, and do not keep the dining table at the centre just because that is how it is classically kept. You can use one half of the room and set it up there.

Time to Discard
It is not just special occasions when you should clean the house and discard things, which usually happens to procrastinate from months to even years. Make it a point to set a desired number of days, like every two months or less, that you will discard any unimportant articles lying around in your house.

Sometimes it becomes difficult for people to part away from things they brought, as it often reminds them of the cherished emotion they relate with it. Hence, the best way to go about it is to remember the last time that particular item was used. This comes very handy when you get to cleaning your wardrobe. Do not keep things just because you want to remember the time you bought it. In retrospect, remember the things you want to keep but cannot find the right place/mantle.

Think before you Purchase
It is very essential for you to stop making random purchases. Be it the new showpiece that you liked, the ashtray made out of Plaster of Paris, or the very creative wall hanging that was gifted to you on your birthday. Take things out from the cupboards only when needed, but take them out of the house if you want to make way for the new purchases.

Putting just about everything together will highlight the beauty of none of those. So the idea is to make space for each item in your house by carefully weighing what you are bringing home, and what all needs to be discarded.

Follow these simple tips and you will soon be feeling like you live in a bigger, brighter and prettier house than before.

Even though you may not be a qualified HVAC technician there are several things you can do to you improve your air conditioner’s efficiency and prolong it’s life. As contractors prices increase and pay raises decrease you may not be able to have a air conditioning technician clean and check your system every year like most manufactures recommend. It is still a good idea to have a qualified service man check your refrigerant pressures and temperatures every few years to obtain maximum system efficiency. Many things done on a preventive maintenance can be done by most home owners and do not require any specialty tools or instruments.

Many people don’t realize that the furnace filter they are accustom to changing is also used for your central air system. Make sure to inspect your system air filter monthly and replace as needed. A clean air filter is just as if not more important for air conditioning than heating. You will also want to make sure most of the supply registers for you system are open. Air conditioners are sized for a specific amount of air flow so if it is restricted by closed register problems may occur. Be sure the drain line from the indoor coil or evaporator is clear and that there are no kinks in the hose. If this line seems very dirty you can pour common house hold bleach through it to kill growing bacteria. Condensate pan treatment tablets or pads should be placed in the evaporator to prevent mold and bacteria from growing in the pan.

Next you will want to turn the power off to the out door unit or condenser at the breaker and remove all grass and shrubs growing with in 8-10 inches of the coil that surrounds the air conditioner. Use a garden hose to soak down the coil surface area making sure not to use so much pressure that you damage the coil fins. Apply a condenser coil cleaner product that comes in a aerosol spray can or mixable concentrate and let soak for 3-5 minutes. Remove the units top and flush coil clean with a garden hose preferably from the inside out. Oil the condenser fan motor with 4-5 drops of a light weight oil, provided the motor has oiling ports. Follow up with a coil coating treatment spray to help keep dirt from sticking in the future.

Reassemble and restore power to the air conditioner. Set your thermostat to cool and below room temperature. After letting in run for 5-10 minutes check the discharge temperature at one of the supply registers closest to the indoor air handler. A quick rule of thumb is that you should have a 15 to 20 degree difference in supply air temperature and room air temperature. So if it is 76 degrees in the house your supply air temperature should be around 56 to 61 degrees. If the temperature difference is less than 15 degrees you may have to have a air conditioning technician check the refrigerant levels.

Easy Steps for Cleaning the Chandelier

By the looks of it, cleaning a chandelier may seem like an overwhelming job. That’s how I felt when my mother-in-law told me we would be inheriting the family chandelier. But (thankfully!) I learned that it isn’t as hard as it looks, as long as you follow these quick and easy steps. Always remember to turn the lights off and let the bulbs cool down before you start cleaning.

Once a week, take a magnetized duster and slowly go around the chandelier, touching the light bulbs, the crystals, and all the metal on the fixture. A magnetized duster or a soft cleaning stick will attract the loose dust and cobwebs better than traditional feather dusters, which may throw dust around into the air.

Twice a year, climb the ladder to get a closer look. With a soft, dry glove, carefully wipe down each of the crystal pieces, as well as the metal and bulbs. The gloves are the key because they allow you to use your fingers for intricate pieces and apply more or less pressure as needed.

Once a year, take the chandelier apart and give each piece a good cleaning. Using a mild detergent and warm water on a cloth, gently clean each crystal piece and the metal parts. Next, lay everything out on a micro-fiber or lint free cloth to air dry; you can also polish them dry if you are really in a hurry.

It’s good to know that most chandeliers have finishes that are properly lacquered and backed, so you shouldn't use liquid cleaners or abrasives. These chemicals can ruin the finish causing discoloration, peeling or breakage. If you have questions about your specific fixture, you can refer to your product manual or you may be able to check the manufacturer’s website for cleaning instructions.

Let’s us @trabajillos give your chandelier that sparkling looks once more.

Tips to Conquer Your Scary Storage Space

We have all been there. You’re all set to decorate for the holidays and are excited to grab those containers full of goodies you've collected over the years.  You finally summon up the nerve to go into your storage space only to notice the critter party that has taken place while you have been away for the year. Maybe you’ll find simple nuisances like cobwebs and dust or something worse like critter droppings ……

Step 1: Clear the Clutter
First, clear out the entire area where possible. A cluttered area is the perfect place for bugs and critters to populate and will make regular cleaning a challenge. As you sort through everything, organize items in to three piles: Trash, Donate, and Keep. Toss anything that no longer works. If you are keeping items that you do not love to possibly use in the future, consider donating it (or even selling it). This method forces you only keep items that are truly useful and well loved, keeping your unnecessary clutter at bay.

Step 2: Evict the Musty Mold, Crafty Critters and Stinky Scents
If you are cleaning out a crawl space, basement, attic or garage, be sure keep a eye out for mold and foul odors, the most common problem found in these areas due to high levels of moisture and leaks,Look for physical signs of pest infestation like droppings, insect parts, webs and nesting materials as well as damage to walls and floors. If you find any of these signs, call us @trabajillos ( an exterminator) to check out the area. If you see some evidence, chances are there is plenty more you are not seeing.

To remove musty smells place bowls of vinegar or a boxes of baking soda around the area to absorb odors. Replace every few weeks.

 Step 3: Time to organize!
Once you have gone through all of your decorations, holiday items and whatever else you have sorted, it’s time to take out what you need for now and set up your clean storage space, properly.  Replace old, damaged boxes with new, labeled boxes or even better, use plastic tubs. Storing items in plastic tubs will keep them safe from critters and water if stored on the floor. If you have the option, store tubs on industrial shelving found in home improvement stores. If you are organizing a garage, mounting items on durable hooks and pegboards are a great way to keep items, safe, dry and organized.

Let us deal with your scary storage space and give your home/office a sparkly Clean look. Visit our website for an estimate today!

It’s important to clean gutters to ensure the proper drainage. If gutters get clogged up, they can create a number of problems for property owners including:

Wood rot
Basement leaks
Foundation damage
Erosion of landscaping
Dirty windows
Lower property value
Providing a home for rodents, pests, insects, mosquitoes, etc.
It creates more weight in the gutters which will cause them to loosen over time
Bent gutters
Even fires caused from falling ashes
More pressure on the gutters causing them to unfasten or leak
And more problems all of which can lead to very expensive repair bills

Properly cleaning gutters prevents these problems and more by ensuring the flow of water to flush through the gutter & downspout and away from the house & foundation through the downspout which they are made to do. It’s an important home maintenance step that should not be ignored. It’s extremely affordable to hire us, even more so when you look at the possible repair bills if you don’t

Window cleaning is something that most of us would take for granted. But did you know that having clean windows makes a lot of difference to the atmosphere of a place. Take for example your home; if you have windows that have accumulated dirt and dust overtime, they are sure to negatively affect the colour, feel and mood of your home. Similarly, place yourself in an office, when clients walk into your office you don’t want them to be taking away that you have a very dull and lifeless office, but what you want them to take away is that you have a vibrant and lively office.

Yes, you may be surprised but windows are capable of making or breaking an image.  There is no excuse for having dirty windows and customers will not have a forgiving attitude. Dirty windows create an unprofessional atmosphere that gives the message that the company is not concerned with how they present themselves to clients.

It also speaks about the company or the organization, clean windows reflect that you are committed to keeping the office better and clean, and that you continue to strive to be better. All these impressions are formed based on the atmosphere of the office, which inadvertently is caused by the natural light that enters into the room, which of course would not happen if you have dirty windows.

A professional window cleaning company  will have the equipment required as well as training for handling windows on ground level buildings as well as skyscrapers. Those who have office buildings in high rises have no option but to hire a professional window cleaning company. Cleaning high-rise windows is extremely dangerous and involves professional equipment such as scaffolding, guardrails, and security ropes. Professionals are trained in a variety of cleaning methods that ensure even the hardest to reach windows are cleaned, polished, and shined to perfection.
It will also help your employees, as naturally when you work in a bright and vibrant setting, they will be more active and organised. They will both emotionally and physically motivated to perform better. Of course interior design plays a much bigger role in ensuring that the right atmosphere is present, but it all starts with natural light and view.  We may give very little importance, some of us might not even regard this as important but having clean windows is very useful to bring out the positive atmosphere in a room

Bed Bug Life Cycle

Bed Bugs (Cimex lectularius) are true bugs that feed on the blood of humans and other warm blooded animals. They are reddish brown in color, flat with a rounded body. Adults are ¼ of an inch while younger nymphs can be difficult to spot at 1 mm in size. They usually feed at night while the host is asleep, sometimes causing small welts that itch. In addition to sightings an infestation can be noted by blood stains or dark excreta spots on sheets, walls and mattresses.

After feeding the female will lay 1 - 5 small white eggs per day with a maximum of 200 - 500. Within 6 - 17 days the eggs hatch into nymphs. These nymphs will feed and molt 5 times before becoming adults this process takes approximately
one month with adults living about a year. Important to note is that they can survive several months to a year with no blood meal. Bed bugs prefer to be near a food source (you) and will commonly be found 6-12 ft. from sleeping areas

When bed bugs cause infestations, they release a liquid that has a pungent odor. With major infestations, such an odor can be unliveable to the homeowner

Welts from bed bugs provoke itching in locations of the body such as the arms and legs. Such welts are frequently seen on visible body parts, giving the appendages an unattractive appearance

Effect of bedbugs
Although bed bugs carry pathogens such as plague and hepatitis B, no evidence exists suggesting they transfer such diseases to people. Though health concerns are unlikely with bed bugs, they do cause infestations that are irritating to homeowners

To find out if you have bed bugs: use a bright flashlight to help you see into the dark crevices in & around the bed. Look in all the creases in your mattresses &bedding. You should also look in openings & corners in the bed frame. Despite their name, bed bugs are not only confined to the bed. Carefully inspect all carpeting & furniture around the bed. This includes all couches, tables, chairs, etc. Look 4 the larvae

  • It can be difficult to prevent bed bugs, but there are some steps you can take to reduce your risk. Be wary of purchasing used furniture, particularly bed frames or mattresses. Examine them carefully before bringing them home.
  •  Use a plastic mattress cover. Bed bugs will not be able to hide on the cover

Before discussing how to treat a bed bug bite: let's talk about how to get rid of bed bugs. The first thing to do is to wash all bedding in very hot water. Stuffed animals or soft toys that cannot be washed should be sealed in plastic bags for a couple of weeks....Most bed bug infestations require a trained exterminator, let's fumigate your house/home visit

Fire prevention

Fire is one of the greatest threats to your family and home. Not only do you need to be quickly alerted — you need to respond fast to fire alarms as well. Fire has the potential to wipe out everything in its path in just minutes. You need to take every possible precaution to minimize its risks. Listed below are some helpful tips to keep your family and home safe from fire.
  • Take care with electrics – over 7,000 fires a year are caused by faulty electrics.
  • Never plug an extension cable into another extension cable or overload plug sockets.
  • When replacing fuses, ensure the correct rating is used.
  • Don’t run cables under carpets, they can get damaged, short, spark and set fire to the carpet.
  • Ensure you don’t exceed recommended wattage when replacing light bulbs. Higher wattage bulbs may give off more heat then sustainable by the lamp shade and cause char, smoulder and open flames.
  • Unplug appliances when not in use.
  • Don’t place wet washing on heaters or in front of fires.
  • Don’t leave lit candles unattended and always put them out before going to bed.
  • Have a spark proof guard in front of all open fires.
  • Ensure that children don’t have access to cookers, matches or are left alone with access to open fires.
  • Never store more chemicals and cleaning fluids then you need.
  • Store paints and thinners in a metal container; never store flammable materials under a staircase.
  • Close all internal doors to limit fires from spreading, especially at nights.
  • Be watchful when cooking - over half of all home fires are caused by accidents in the kitchen.*
  • When cooking, never leave hot fats or oils unattended. Make sure saucepan handles don’t stick out as they may be knocked off the surface and cause fire.
  • Don’t exceed the recommended cooking times of high starch and/or sugar content foods when using your microwave; these can burst into flames.
  • Make sure your smoke detectors are working correctly (test regularly!)– 1 in 3 smoke alarms fail to work and warn residents of a fire, mainly due to missing or non-working batteries.*
  • Get a fire blanket and fire extinguisher, and know how to use them.

Effortless less tips to maintain your office

Businesses spend substantial resources on impressive office design and refurbishments. In order to avoid incurring additional costs throughout the lease, it is in the immediate interest of any company to invest time and plan wisely for proper care and maintenance of office furniture, equipment and interiors.

As an option, you may choose to employ professional service providers for office maintenance on a contractual basis, to do away with all the hassles of keeping your office clean and up-to-date. Alternatively, you must be on a constant vigil so that suitable office maintenance measures are executed to create a smooth and healthy work environment.
Let’s go over some tips for easy office maintenance.
1.    Promote Clean Workstation Policy
Encourage your employees to do away with cluttering their desks and ensure that every desk is dust-free by adopting healthy housekeeping practices.
Keeping each workstation neat and tidy would mean half the battle won. Also, cleaner work environment would mean enhanced productivity.
2.    Maintaining Leather Finished Furniture
If you have invested in expensive leather for your office furniture, undertake appropriate measures to maintain its quality and appearance. You must refrain from using alcohol-based abrasive cleaners and opt for the ones available specifically for leather.
Also, be careful not to expose the material to direct sunlight. Engaging the services of a skilled leather-cleaning technician would be recommended.
3.    Wood Furniture Care
Finished wood furniture is quite easy to clean. Ideally, wipe the surface with a damp cloth and treat with wood polish next. Some offices might have antique furniture created from untreated wood, for which special care must be taken. Only dry cloth should be used to clean off the dust and special oils available to retain the finish of such wood must be used.
4.    A stitch in time…
Encourage your staff to report any anomaly they come across within the existing fit-out. For instance, if someone noticed a loose screw or a strange noise in one of the office chairs, they should immediately notify the appropriate person to fix it. Such prompt measures will ensure safety of the employees and avoid further damages.
5.    Focus on the Reception Area
Your company’s reception area is the face of your business. The overall appearance of the area and the cleanliness must be immaculate and ooze professionalism to create a lasting impression on your clients and visitors.
The seating area must be kept spick and span at all times. Watch out for worn out furniture pieces or upholstery and replace them without delay. Invest in high-quality stain removers to keep every inch stain-free.
It is a must to inculcate the importance of a clean workplace in your company’s primary list of objectives, so that each employee understands and acknowledges its importance in building a cleaner society and boosting overall productivity.
A clean and well-maintained office space aids building the right professional attitude and a touch of refinement; and puts you across as a serious business enterprise.
At trabajillos Nigeria we can partner with you to maintain your office complex by supplying you cleaners on routine or periodic bases.please visit or email us at

Best way to tackle cleaning

Best Way to Tackle Cleaning

  • Always start at the top of the room and work your way down.
  • Always clean top to bottom. When you dust, start at the top and work down.
  • Take all your cleaning tools with you into each room to avoid unnecessary trips back and forth.
  • Unplug the phone and the turn off the T.V.
  • Eliminate clutter. An uncluttered home looks better than one that is dust-free but strewn with odds and ends.
  • Clean as you go! It takes a lot less time to remove new dirt than old, and to clean and put away stuff as you use it, than to clean and store the pile-up you can accumulate.
  • A house that smells fresh will give the impression of cleanliness. Leave baking soda on carpeting for the night to absorb musty odors, vacuum in the morning.
  • Keep a big astro-turf mat on the porch to cut down on tracked in dirt.
  • Keep a basket in the kitchen for the mail, newspaper, car keys to help with clutter.
  • Keep a hamper in every bathroom.
  • Make everyone in charge of making his or her own bed and picking up their stuff.
  • Always pickup the T.V. room before bedtime and start the dishwasher.
  • Prioritize, if your time is limited decided what is most important.
  • Delegate, get the entire family involved.
  • Make a checklist, when a job is completed, check it off - you'll feel as though you are really accomplishing something.

Household Sewage System Maintenance Tips

After the installation of a septic system, most homeowners tend to forget about it; out of sight, out of mind. But the household septic system performs a vital task and requires a little care and maintenance to keep it functioning properly. Certain chemicals can harm the delicate balance in a septic tank and should not be run through the system.

They include:
• Paints and solvents
• Thinners
• Nail polish remover
• Drain cleaners
• Motor oil
• Kerosene and gasoline
• Floor wax
• Chlorine bleach

Other materials may not harm the system chemically, but could cause a blockage. These items cannot be digested by the microorganisms in the septic tank.
They include:
• Grease and cooking oil
• Animal fat
• Coffee grounds
• Plastics
• Cigarettes
• Cotton balls and cotton swabs
• Condoms
• Feminine hygiene products
• Diapers

Another essential part of maintaining your septic system is having the septic tank pumped on a regular basis. Solids will accumulate in the septic tank and must be removed regularly before they migrate into the leachfield and clog the pipes. Some Health Department recommends having septic tanks pumped every 3 - 5 years.

Some additional tips on protecting your sewage treatment system:

Do not build anything over or within ten feet of any part of your septic system. This includes driveways, fences, swimming pools, sheds, decks and house additions. Do not allow anyone to drive heavy vehicles over any portion of the sewage system. Pipes and tanks may be damaged or crushed and the soil may become compacted, which could minimize its ability to filter and absorb sewage. Do not plant any trees or shrubs with complex root systems, like willows or soft maples, near any portion of the system. Their roots will travel laterally underground as they seek water and will grow into pipes causing blockages.

Common Pests and How to Control Them

There are all kinds of pests that may invade your home—eight legged, four legged and even two legged—but some of the most common and most bothersome are the six legged ones. I'm talking about cockroaches and ants. Once they're entrenched, they can be hard to get rid of, but if you're plagued by cockroaches or ants here's how to show them the door.

There are things to do that can guard against cockroaches. First, don’t keep trash indoors any longer than necessary. Put it outside. And don’t leave a lot of trash bags full of clothing or other things sitting around. Most importantly, get rid of all cardboard boxes. Cardboard boxes make great cheap or free storage containers, however they also are the cockroach’s favorite breeding tool. Buy plastic storage containers at a discount store. The expense is well worth it. And don’t put all the things from the cardboard boxes into trash bags. Roaches can also breed and nest in plastic bags. Use plastic storage containers for everything. Roaches love clutter, so try to keep your home neat and clear. In the kitchen, don’t leave food or scraps laying around. Keep the strainer in your sink clear of food particles. Cockroaches need water, and they are attracted to it. Don’t leave dishes soaking in the kitchen sink unless absolutely necessary. Keep kitchen counters clean. These steps are your best protection against a cockroach infestation.

Ants are much easier to guard against and eradicate than cockroaches. To avoid ants, you should do this no matter what part of the country you live in. Also, don’t leave any open food around. After each meal, clean up the table completely, and make sure to remove any food scraps from the floor. Don’t leave out any partially eaten candy, or any other sticky sweet items. Ants are drawn from far away by sugar. Put any layer cakes or pastries in the refrigerator. Thoroughly clean out any cabinets where sugar was stored. If you follow these steps, you should remain ant free. If ants still invade, the small ant poison feeders work well. Put them any place you see ants. This should take care of your ant problem.ant

Eliminating House Mice: Extermination and Prevention Tips

Conventional Snap Traps
Known for their ability to instantly kill a mouse, these traditional traps have been around for years. Best when baited with sticky food, the conventional mouse trap uses a heavy gauge steel spring bar to quickly kill the mouse when the trap is sprung. It is considered very humane and is much easier to cleanup than other options. These traps are also very inexpensive, which makes them an attractive option for those of us on a budget. Keep in mind, that with this type of trap, it is important to use a lot of them, more than you think you need. Be careful with these traps, however. The springs are very powerful and can easily hurt an unsuspecting child or family pet.

Glue Traps:
Considered the least humane of all traps, glue traps use a sticky substance either in a tray or on a board to catch the unsuspecting rodent as it hunts for food. They are safe to use around small children and pets and can easily be disposed of. A considerable draw back to this type of trap is that it does not kill the mouse immediately. It can take a mouse days or even weeks to die from hunger and thirst, and if the mouse is found alive, it becomes the responsibility of the trapper to end the little life of the mouse. These traps should only be used with the most careful consideration.

Live Traps:
These traps are the most humane option to choose because they safely trap the mouse while it hunts for food. Traps must be checked every day to ensure that the animal does not suffer from lack of food and water. Also, if you choose to use live traps, make sure to relocate the mouse several miles from your home, otherwise, he will return to again partake of your generous hospitality. A mouse can have a territory of 200 yards or more in width, so simply releasing the little guy in the bin behind your house will not guarantee that he will not return to your home.

Rodent Poison:

Also called rodenticide, rodent poisons affect the body’s ability to clot the blood, causing internal bleeding and eventual death. If a mouse consumes a lethal dose, it can take him up to five excruciating days to die. Expect to find dead, poison contaminated mice throughout your home within that time period, including within your walls. If a poisoned mouse dies within your walls, you can be sure that you will smell it for months to come. Take heed that poisons should not be used if there are small children or pets in the home. They will be put in considerable danger, not just because of the presence of the poison, but also because of the poisoned rodents themselves. If a pet inadvertently consumes a poisoned mouse, they run the risk of being poisoned themselves, offering you the potential devastation of losing a precious pet unnecessarily.

Electronic Mouse Traps:
The premise behind this modern day wonder is that it will eliminate mice from your home by delivering an electric shock that kills them within seconds. When the mouse steps on the internal plate, he completes the circuit within the trap and receives a shock that stops his heart. This trap operates off of 4 AA batteries and is relatively easy to use. Electronic mouse traps can be rather expensive, so use them only if cost is not an issue.
Sonic Pest Control, use these devices sparingly. They are expensive to purchase and studies have shown that they are not as effective as the manufacturers claim them to be. Sonic controllers may annoy your furry invaders, but they do not ensure that the invaders will leave.

The Mouse Battle:
you know the old saying is true, “Where there is one mouse, there may be more.”

To prevent a re-occurrence of  infestation, work to mouse-proof your house, both inside and out.start on the inside of the house by putting all of your dried foods like cereal, grains, flour, and sugar into mouse-proof containers. I sealed up any small holes or crevices, use plywood to cover holes that are too big to caulk. Next, seal up any gaps or holes you find leading into the house. Finally, I evaluated the areas around the house, cutting down sections of bush and dense undergrowth which might offer a mouse safe harbor.

How to Clean Up Fire Extinguisher Chemicals

The most versatile fire extinguisher type for home use is probably the dry chemical fire extinguisher, which is recommended for normal fires as well as grease fires and electrical fires. Unfortunately, dry chemical extinguishers come with a downside. When used, a dry chemical extinguisher coats the surrounding area in a layer of chemicals that, while great at smothering fires, make a huge mess and can damage electronic equipment. With these instructions, you can minimize the mess after using a fire extinguisher.
Step 1: Identifying the Chemicals

There are many different kinds of fire extinguishers used in homes, but two kinds will not require special cleanup. If you have a water fire extinguisher or a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher, you do not need to worry about cleaning up afterwords, beyond using a towel on something that can be damaged by water.

Dry chemical extinguishers are the ones known for making a mess. Though they are usually easy to clean up, different chemicals require different methods.

To start out, check to see what chemicals your fire extinguisher contains. You should do this anyway for fire safety reasons, so you know how to use your specific fire extinguisher already when the time comes. Its label or tag should have all of the information you need. Once you know what chemicals you are cleaning up, you are ready to get started.
Step 2: Cleaning

Now that you know what you are up against, you are ready to apply the specific, appropriate techniques.

If you are cleaning up after a halotron fire extinguisher, you are already done. Halotron safely disperses into the air, leaving no mess behind.

Weed control in lawns begins with a healthy, vigorous, dense stand of turf. Healthy turf aids weed control by growing to fill bare areas, shading the soil surface, and shading newly emerged weeds. Without sunlight, many new weeds cannot survive. A healthy, lush, green stand of turf, free from weeds, is pleasing to look at and can bring a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment to the homeowner.

Here are some examples of how you can reduce and prevent the growth of weeds in your lawn:
Use soil tests to keep the pH in the proper range.
  • Add fertilizer at rates recommended on the soil test report to encourage rapid turf growth. Too much fertilizer, however, particularly nitrogen, is detrimental to the turf stand.
  • Irrigate during periods of limited rainfall to relieve stress and encourage growth. Apply large volumes of water periodically rather than brief, frequent waterings to encourage deep rooting.
  • Excessive water can stress turf and increase weed growth. Virginia buttonweed, for example, thrives in wet areas and is particularly difficult to control with herbicides. Use preventive measures to reduce the potential for invasion of this weed in turf. Build up low areas to avoid "ponding" or standing water.
  • Insects and diseases can stress and kill turf. Control these pests to avoid potential damage to the turf.
  • Mowing can stress turf if too much vegetation is removed by the clipping process. Set your mower to remove less than one-third of the vegetation to avoid "scalping".
  • Bare soil is a prime area for weed invasion. Bare areas can either be reseeded, plugged, or left for adjacent grass to grow into. Cover reseeded areas with mulch, such as grain straw, until the area is filled with turf.
  • Eliminate weeds early in the growing season, before they develop a spreading root system or set seeds.
  • Prevent weeds from entering the garden by avoiding the use of fresh manure.
  • Cultivate on a sunny, warm day so weeds that have been pulled or tilled will dry out and die.
  • Apply an adequate layer of mulch to prevent seedling weed emergence.
  • Remove weed clippings from the property if there is a chance that seeds have been set.
Using these methods can help control weeds, but regardless of how well you follow good production practices, weed seeds will germinate and seedlings will emerge. Often times herbicides are the next resort for homeowners.

The disadvantages of using these are:
  • They are expensive.
  • They are difficult to apply with accuracy.
  • Drifting or leaching may occur and damage desirable plants.
  • Proper storage and handling may be a problem.
  • Many herbicides are labeled for specific crops and are not suitable for a garden with a wide variety of crops.
There are many different species of weeds that grow in turf. To properly eliminate these with an herbicide, please visit and make inquiry,we would come take clippings of as many different weeds in your lawn as possible have them identified and would use the  proper herbicide to kill them.
